WEEE
What is it? WEEE is waste electrical and electronic equipment, over a million tonnes of which is discarded each year in the UK and until now has generally ended up in landfill sites. Apart from the sheer scale of this WEEE, it contains toxins which can harm the environment, wildlife and humans.
What is Changing? The government introduced the Waste Electrical and Electronic Regulations which govern how electrical and electronic equipment is produced, distributed and disposed of. This aims to promote the recycling of equipment wherever possible. Equipment covered by the WEEE regulations is identified by the crossed-out wheelie bin symbol as shown.
What should you do? WEEE should be disposed of either by taking it to your local household waste recycling centre, or alternatively you may return it to a retailer when you purchase a similar replacement item (some responsible retailers have paid to be a member of the "Distributor Take Back" scheme and are thus not obliged to take in WEEE. Amy Computer Boost falls into this category, although we sometimes do take in old equipment for re-use).
If you buy a new computer from us, we will be happy to take your old like-for-like equipment for possible re-use or recycling by Weeecare, our electronic waste recycling partner.
